Chilean Senators propose expanding the use of CNG in private cars

August 6, 2013. Due to the new rise in the value of different octane gasoline in Chile, have resurfaced the voices of those who propose as an alternative measure to allow the conversion of private vehicles to natural gas, such as it can make some public transport vehicles.

   Currently, LPG and natural gas are the options to gasoline. Between the two gaseous fuels are transformed more than 400 taxis per month saving over 40%.

   The gas vehicle certification is conducted by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications and applies to light passenger vehicles intended for passenger transport (taxis and buses) and light commercial vehicles.

   According to the Senator for the Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica, Carlos Bianchi Chelech, who has led this type of options for several years, is one of the ways that the State of Chile should privilege. For the legislator, it is an initiative with high viability because it has a cost savings for the country and also has absolute efficiency in environmental issues.

   For these reasons, the Senator raised to the respective ministries opening natural gas to private use and throw soft loans to encourage it between public transport and allow this to be the alternative for all Chile.

   In the same vein, Senator Pedro Muñoz presented in 2006 a bill that provides special rules for the conversion of vehicles to compressed natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas in XII Region. However, the motion did not advance and Muñoz insists that this is a good time to reactivate, because obviously there is a great prejudice to the owners of cars, and particularly for those who use them as a working medium.
