Skoda Citigo CNG set a new efficiency record

August 8, 2013. On his way from Italy to Sweden, hypermiler world champion Gerhard Plattner traveled through nine European countries in just five days. As the natural gas-powered city car arrived at its destination at the Music & Art Festival in the Swedish capital, the record was secure: For the 2.619 kilometers across Europe, Plattner and his Citigo CNG had achieved an average consumption of just 2.39 kilograms of compressed natural gas (CNG) per100 kilometers, well below the manufacturer's specification of 2.9 kilograms. That corresponds to only 65 grams of CO2 emitted per kilometer.

He was very excited about this record because it is a testament to the efficiency of the CNG drive in the Skoda Citigo. Plattner added that despite unexpected price increases for natural gas in Italy and Sweden, he managed to make it on his limited budget and still has 18.76 euros left in his pocket.

In addition to Plattner’s efficient driving style, the new record is also due to the modern natural gas technology employed in the Skoda Citigo. Features such as a start-stop system, energy recovery via regenerative breaking, and optimized low rolling resistance tires also contributed to the success of the natural gas vehicle.
